Thought for the Month (October 2017)

I am really looking forward to October. Some really exciting things are happening!

At the end of September Angela Rigsby will have been ordained and inducted to ministry within the St John's Sevenoaks and Tonbridge United Reformed Church pastorate. I have been asked to be Angela's pastoral adviser. A listening ear and reminder of key tasks she has to undertake in her early years of ministry. So, exciting times for our friends and neighbours in Tonbridge and Sevenoaks, and a new colleague for Sharon Lovelock (Minister of Tonbridge and Southborough Methodist Churches), and for us in the West Kent and East Sussex Synod Area (WKESSA) of the United Reformed Church (URC) too.

On Thursday 5th October, Tom Hackett (URC Southern Synod Children and Youth Development Officer) will be visiting with us. He will visit Rusthall in the morning and join with Hawkenbury and Tunbridge Wells in the afternoon. Tom will help us to look at how "child friendly" we are. If you would like to come along to meet Tom we are meeting at 10.00am at Rusthall URC and 1.30pm at Tunbridge Wells URC.

Then we have a united service for the group on Sunday 15th October at Tunbridge Wells URC; an opportunity for us to worship as a wider family, to meet and encourage one another. Such a joint service on a Sunday morning does not happen often so please don't think "Oh, that is too much effort"; do really try and come along – we need YOU to be there! We have Rev Andy Twilley (URC Southern Synod Training & Development Officer) coming to lead worship, and he will stay on for the afternoon and lead our Elders and Stewards in looking at mission.

For those in Rusthall there will also be an opportunity on 22nd October to join with friends from St. Paul's, All Saints at Langton Green, and St Mary's Speldhurst: again, an opportunity to join together, be a visible witness to the wider community, and encourage and be encouraged by others.

These are just a few of the things happening. Read the magazine and see what else is going on. As I say, an exciting month. But, then, every month there are exciting things happening with God!

"Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, rejoice! Philippians 4:4"
