Thought for the Month (July 2017)

"Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body." Proverbs 16:24

These words, written so many years ago, are as true today as they were the day they were written. There are some real nuggets of truth in Proverbs. Real gems that bear reading, re-reading, and enacting. Indeed, there are several similar passages that I could have started with this month which shows how important our words of encouragement to each other truly are.

Think about the conversations you have had recently. How many have borne you up and heartened you? A few kind words of encouragement can really work wonders. Equally how many conversations have left you feeling low, or discouraged? A few thoughtless words can really burst the balloon of joy and happiness.

We all need to be encouraged. Life can be hard, it can be tough, it can be disheartening; but a smile, an unexpected word of thanks, an unprompted card on the door mat can make such a difference to each and every one of us.

So, this month I really encourage all of us to make an especial effort to encourage one another with gracious words.

As Paul wrote to that early Church in Thessaloniki:-

"Speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you'll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you're already doing this; just keep on doing it." I Thessalonians5:10-11
