Thought for the Month (January 2017)
Happy New Year!
There is always a sense of excitement at the beginning of a New Year. A sense of starting afresh, new opportunities, making resolutions to do better in the year to come than the year behind.
As the calendar turns over to another year most people look back to what they did, or didn't do, in the last year, and their thoughts turn to what they would like the new year to bring.
This year brings its own especial excitement because it is our first here within the Tunbridge Wells group of United Reformed Churches. We feel excited to be here.
Yet we also give thanks for what has gone on before. The faithfulness of previous Ministers and Members. The exciting things that have been happening in all the fellowships over the last twelve months. As we look back over the last year, (and longer), it is important to give thanks for all the good things that have happened, and to give thanks to all who helped to make them happen.
Above all to give thanks to God for His goodness.
As we look forward we must remember too that the Bible is the best source for guidance and wisdom for all of us as we journey together in adventure. The one wise resolution we could all probably make is to spend more time in reading the Bible and in prayer. I am continually amazed that passages that I thought I knew suddenly reveal fresh insights, fresh understandings, and new depths when reading them again. There is always something to learn, to be comforted by, and to be challenged by, however many times we have read them before.
None of us know what lies ahead in 2017 but we do know that God is with us as we journey so
"Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings" Hebrews 10:22
